UK finally showing signs of productivity boost, say economists |
| Morgan Stanley analysts have identified nascent signs of tech-driven improvements in UK productivity growth. If sustained, it could boost incomes and ease some of the strains on Britain’s public finances. Separately, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has reported an eight-point increase in its consumer confidence index to -28 in August. Gen Z showed the most optimism, anticipating improved finances and increased spending. Helen Dickinson, BRC chief executive, said: "Consumer sentiment continued to rise, with confidence in the economy hitting its highest level since the historical lows reached at the start of the Iran conflict." The GfK consumer confidence index also rose significantly in July, increasing at its fastest pace since November 2023. |
