Palm Beach County School Board shakeup |
Marcia Andrews and Erica Whitfield are stepping down from the Palm Beach County School Board, creating two open seats. Whitfield's District 4 seat has attracted four candidates: Tiffany Bryant, Anthony Hamlet, Christina Romelus, and Daniel Zapata. Romelus, endorsed by Whitfield, emphasizes her public service background, while Hamlet, a former superintendent, runs on a “results, not rhetoric” platform. In District 6, John McGovern, Wanda Rosario-Schoenfeld, and Widline Pierre are competing to succeed Andrews. McGovern has a financial edge and focuses on safe schools and better teacher pay. Pierre aims to rebuild enrollment, which has dropped by 6,000 students. All candidates will appear on todays primary ballot, with a runoff in November if no one secures over 50% of the vote. "The race is heating up," said Whitfield.
